Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Distilling Head, Vigreux, Jacketed, 10/30 Thermometer Joint,24/40 Joint Size, 4mm Glass Stopcock, Approx. 550mm Height x 325mm Width. Jacketed fractionation distilling head for use under vacuum. The 10/18 top outer joint is for a 1¿ immersion thermometer while the 10/30 joints are for a 2¿ immersion thermometer. The 24/40 joint size uses 4mm glass or PTFE stopcocks, and are positioned to permit changing of receiver without interruption of the distillation process. The 14/20 size uses 2mm bore glass or PTFE stopcocks.

Condenser has a 50mm O.D. flange at the bottom, a 19/38 top valve, and removable hose connections using GL-14 glass threads. Condenser is supplied complete with plastic caps and serrated hose connections.

100mL Reaction Vessel, Jacketed, 60mm Schott O-Ring Flange, GL-14 Inlet/Outlet, CG-911-A-10 Drain Valve. Similar to CG1924, but with our CG911A 0-14mm sidearm valve. All valves are designed to seal flush with the bottom of the flask avoiding the dead space normally associated with stopcock drains. This feature permits total mixing & draining of the contents of the reactor. The CG510 is recommended for solution based reactions while the CG911A and CG511 are recommended for reactions containing solids. Reaction vessel is constructed with a flange having a groove formed in the sealing surface of the flange. Flange is also ground to permit a greased seal with any lids CG1940 through CG1946. Supplied complete with two polypropylene hose connections and two screw caps (Polypropylene hose connections with a Viton rubber seal for working temperatures up to max +110°C.) Condenser, Friedrichs, 360mm, 45/50 Inner Joint. Similar to CG-1210 but with the 24/40 outer joint replaced with a serrated hose connection for use with a drying tube. This style condenser is used primarily in Soxhlet extractions or in reflux mode. Hose connections have an O.D. of 10mm at the middle serration.

Designed for use with small quantities where hold up between the flask and receiver must be kept to a minimum. The thermometer bulb and stem serve as column packing. Upper hose connections are for cooling lines while the lower connection is for vacuum. Available with Vigreux indentations to improve efficiency. NOTE: The 14/20 size accepts a 1” immersion 7/12 or 10/18 thermometer, while the 24/40 and 29/42 sizes accepts a 2” immersion, 10/30 thermometer.

Receiver is made according to ASTM specifications, with the addition of the top outer standard taper joint and lower stopcock. The 2mL has sub-divisions of 0.02mL; the 5ml has subdivisions of 0.20mL; 10ml has subdivisions of 0.1mL; the 20mL has subdivisions of 0.2 from 0 to 3mL and 0.5 from 3 to 20mL. Available with glass or PTFE stopcocks.

Replacement vapor (steam) tube adapter for Bchi R-200/205 rotary evaporators. Adapters have a 50mm OD top flange with a tapered interior to fit the Bchi sealing ring. Lower portion of the adapter has the listed standard taper inner joint. Each tube is supplied complete with corresponding size Keck clip.NOTE: ITEMS WILL REPLACE THE BUCHI PART NUMBERS AS LISTED.
